The crows has had gathered at Avoca Beach and North Avoca Beach to watch the sinking of the ex-HMAS Adelaide which will be come a scuba dive wreck. People lines the clifftops, they were on the top of buildings and even on the top of the big blue water tower above Terrigal Beach.

The security was tight, both on the water and on the beach. Police helicopters were hovering overhead, the riot squad was there as were the mounted police, motorbike police and at least 4 police boats. The National Parks and Wildlife chopper spotted a pod of dolphins which delayed the scuttling from 10:30am to around 11:45am.

There was a flotilla of spectator craft waiting to see the scuttling of the ex-HMAS Adelaide, yachts, huge ferries, paddle craft, surfboard riders and even light aircraft were flying overhead.

The ex-HMAS Adelaide sat waiting to be scuttles, holes cut into her side to allow access for scuba divers and marine life when resting on the sandy bottom on 32 meters of water.

Fireworks were lit to provide a show for the spectators just before the scuttling charges were set off.

The biggest explosion was for the final cutting charges which began the sinking of the ex-HMAS Adelaide.

The ex-HMAS Adelaide took about 90 seconds to sink, providing a spectacular to the onlooking crowd.

Richard Glover of ABC drive interviewed a representative from McMahon’s Services and divers have already confirmed that the ship is resting upright on the bottom sitting on 6 meters of sand and that the ship’s placment has gone exactly as planned.
